What is the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is a government initiative in Great Britain aimed at addressing fuel poverty and lowering carbon emissions by promoting energy efficiency. Under ECO, energy companies are obligated to implement energy-saving measures in residential properties. Unlike a grant program, ECO does not provide direct funding. Instead, energy companies decide which retrofit projects to support, the amount of funding allocated, and the selection of Retrofit Coordinators and installers they collaborate with.
